Kunstenaar William Llewellyn

"Sir William Llewellyn, the eminent portrait and landscape painter, was born in 1858 at Cirencester in Gloucestershire.He studied under Poynter at the RCA and later in Paris under Lefebvre and Ferrier. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1884, was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1912, a Full Academician in 1920 and became President of the Royal Academy, the highest social position in the British art world, between 1928 and 1938.During his lifetime, William Llewellyn was honoured many times for his artistic work, including the grant of KCVO in 1918 and GCVO in 1931. He painted many portraits of royalty, including the State portrait of Queen Mary in 1910, and his work is held in many public collections.Sir William Llewellyn lived in London for most of his life, where he died in January 1941."
