Artist Dean Mitchell

Dean Mitchell is recognized as one of the finest painters in America. His themes are universal ones of life, death, family connections, psychological and spiritual revelations. The artist states, “I have inherited a passion for the simple things of life––in this we retain the essence of time and the true meaning of life.” He breathes life and soul into his work and is equally well known for his carefully chosen subjects in figurative works, landscapes and still-life paintings. In addition to watercolor paintings, Mitchell is accomplished in egg tempera, oil and pastel. The American Watercolor Society honored Mitchell with the Gold Medal of Honor in their 131st International Exhibition held in New York City. Other awards include the 1999 Grand Prize from the Arts for the Parks competition sponsored by the National Park Academy of the Arts. Dean Mitchell was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and raised in Quincy, Florida. His talent as an artist was apparent at an early age. Dean gives much credit to his success to his grandmother, Marie, who raised him and supported his dream. Although she died in 1984, she would have been proud of his many successes including an honorary Masters Degree from his alma mater, the Columbus College of Art and Design, in 1994. The artist exhibits nationwide in juried and invitational shows and in select galleries
