Artist Charles Burton Barber

"Born in London in 1845, Charles Burton Barber became a very popular sporting and animal painter, specialising particularly in sentimental portraits of dogs, often with children. Charles Burton Barber exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1866 to 1893. He was one of the privileged artists allowed to paint Queen Victoria with her dogs and his portfolio included portraits of many other royal dogs, including Fozzy, who was a pet of the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII). Charles Burton Barber died in 1894 but his work remains popular today, principally because of the artistic skill and sentimental subject matter which make his work so typical of much Victorian art."
