Artist Marie-louise Oudkerk

Marie-Louise was born in 1958 in Bennekom in Holland and grew up in a musical and artistic family. For ten years she would paint daily. She started with watercolors, then mixed techniques and now uses acrylic on cloth.

After years of hard struggle against disappointments and bad luck, she finally reached the point of knowing what she wanted to do – “acrylic painting on linen, big and with soberness in primary colors”.

She searches for a balance in freedom and colors, of lines and figures. Harmony has to bring peace to her work. Themes like old cultures and astrology have the leading part in her work. They form a guide and template for her paintings. She believes that “Old cultures are the bridge to our birth, something that will always occupy our minds. The quietness, the colours and the figures do appeal to me very much, not mentioning the cultural background. The astrology, because there is a certain mysticism in it, is something elusive.”

“The vague, the mysterious, the untouchable is what I want to catch in my paintings” she says. “Painting in this way brings me a balance in this hectic life of to day.

It takes a lot of courage to conquer that immense great white sheet. This challenge gives me the inexhaustible need to paint.”

“The artist existence is a balance between deep valley’s and high peaks, doubt, acknowledgement and grief, but for me a passion. I am always in search for other possibilities, to shift my boundaries within framed thoughts is the way I want to work and develop.”
