Artist Richard Pearce

"Born on June 4th 1953, the artist Richard Pearce has lived and worked throughout his life in the Isles of Scilly, off the south west coast of the United Kingdom. He has always lived near to the sea and he spent his childhood on beaches, exploring caves, clambering over rocks and climbing cliffs. Now, as a professional artist, he dedicates his time to creating depictions of the beautiful coastline and seas around his home on one of the more deserted islands in the group.Richard Pearce paints usually in acrylic and usually using a palette knife. He states that “My work is always as much about what I eliminate in my painting as it is about what I include. I try to achieve balance by experimentation and elimination. Each stage of the development of a composition should be allowed to dictate the creation of the next. These paintings are journeys where each additional layer represents a shift in direction. Often beginning with random spills and splatters, I continue by making increasingly more calculated decisions. The greatest difficulty in painting is to allow each new work to develop itself. What is underneath is as important as what is on the surface yet vague forms begin to appear and each movement is preserved like tracks in the sand.”He is married and his varied seascapes have been exhibited widely both in the United Kingdom and around the world."
