Artist Robert Sweet

"Robert Sweet was born in England in 1772.A nurseryman by profession, he worked near Bristol with his half brother in the late 1790s and moved to London circa 1810, working as a foreman in Fulham and Chelsea. He was tried in 1824, accused of the theft of a plant from Kew Gardens, largely on the grounds that he was known to be jealous of Kew's Director. He was, however, aquitted and thus escaped the death penalty.Ceasing his nursery work in 1826, Sweet possibly earned a living from the publication of five or six of his works and from his paintings. He died in 1835."
