Artist Roman Frances

"Born in Southern Spain in January 1950, Roman Frances is an artist whose work is characterised by the vivid sense of light he portrays. At the age of fourteen, Roman Frances began to paint in the studio of Gasper Frances Rico, who became not only his teacher, but also his friend. He made his debut in 1965 at the Salon de Oto?o in Alcoy and continues to participate in exhibitions throughout Spain and throughout the world his work is shown regularly in America and, over the last five years, Roman Frances has also exhibited in Belgium, Italy, Monaco, Portugal, Sweden and Japan before returning to resettle in his home town of Alcoy,Now he lives and works in two very different places, which inspire him greatly: in the mountains around Alcoy and in and around Denia by the Mediterranean Sea. In both places the artist finds the light, with its comprehensive tints of violet, blue, fuchsia and garnet, particularly accessible to the impressionist nature of his paintbrush.G Gayon wrote that Roman Frances’s paintings “are rich in stuff, they are also kind, full of the light so characteristic amongst painters born in this land”, and Adrian Espi wrote that “he has turned scenery into life”."
