Artist Rudyard Kipling

"Rudyard Kipling was born in 1865 and is one of the best known English poets of all time. In 1907 he became the first Englishman to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature.Born in Bombay, where his father was a teacher, Rudyard Kipling came from a creative background since his mother was a sister-in-law of the eminent painter Edward Burne-Jones. As was often the way, he was sent to England at the age of six and lived unhappily for five years in a foster home.On completing his education he rapidly gained enormous popular success with his short stories and verses, which included The Jungle Book, Just So Stories, Stalky & Co., Gunga Din and If. His work is often also associated with a celebration of heroism and British Imperial rule.Kipling died on 18 January 1936 in London, and is buried in Poet’s Corner in Westminster Abbey."
