Artist Suzie Pibworth

"Suzie Pibworth was born in 1976 and brought up in a small village in Hampshire. Her parents were great influences on her artistic career and she used to spend hours helping her father with the gardening, learning about the textures and colours of her natural surroundings. Her mother spent a great deal of time dressmaking, and at the age of 12 the artist acquired a second-hand sewing machine and started to make clothes and accessories and to enjoy working with fabric. She completed a Foundation Course in Art & Design and took a degree in Textile Design and Surface Pattern. In 2002 she won a postgraduate award from the Arts & Humanities Research Board to study for an MA in Textile Design. From a young age, Suzie Pibworth was also captivated by photography. She set up her own black-and-white photographic darkroom when very young and her passion for watching the photographic images develop onto paper translated later into a love of screen-printing onto textiles and then, with the introduction of digital printing, to the reproduction of photographic images precisely onto fabric. She describes her work as “colourful fragments of her experiences of the world around her” and works now mainly with photography, stitching and digital printing. Suzie Pibworth has exhibited her work throughout the UK and, away from the easel, her principal hobby is travel."
