"Emma Forrester was born in 1972 in Stoke-on-Trent and graduated in 1993 with a BA Hons degree in fine art.
Since graduating she has worked as a scenic artist in the theatre on many West End shows and for productions at the Royal Opera House. She has also recently begun to exhibit her own paintings, which demonstrate her skill at working with texture, mark making and colour.
She says: âMy paintings are created to evoke not simply the beauty of flowers, but also their vitality and strength. As images they demand attention and space - they refuse to be purely decorative. I try to create images which in some sense capture the movement of flowers. They are rarely static and I try not to pin them down as in a botanical illustration. In some paintings the image is quite abstracted as I attempt to describe the essence of the flower rather than depict it representationally.â
As an artist, she uses what she describes as âheavy texture, built up carefully in layers, juxtaposed with delicate washes of colourâ and this produces a depth and variety of tone.
Emma Forrester lives in London."
