Artist Hunter

"Artist Hunter seems to embody a true spirit of creativity, as a painter, writer, musician and composer. In fact, one of his earliest memories is when, at about the age of five, he found his father’s old guitar in a closet and sounded the strings. “I remember ‘feeling’ the beauty of sound,” the artist explains. From that day on, he taught himself to play and has played daily ever since.Born near Boston and raised in New England, Hunter received a Bachelor of Fine Art in Florida. He began his early career as a writer and Art Director for a motion picture company, and later headed the graphics department at the National Museum of American Illustration. His love of narrative imagery and the illustrative expression of light and colour are of profound interest to the artist, and whether he finds these elements perfectly captured in the French Impressionist paintings of Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro or the Twentieth Century illustrations of N.C. Wyeth, and Howard Pyle, there is a story to be told through light, colour and texture. Contemporary artists Mark Rothko, Franz Kline and Robert Rauschenberg also strongly influence his painting.Hunter loves the high energy of New York City and the ever-changing seasonal beauty of New England, but his favourite place to travel is a stretch of highway between Orlando and Sarasota, Florida, which was once his daily commute. “There were beautiful rolling hills which the sun painted for me as I drove,” the artist recalls, “it was a great source of inspiration.”Hunter finds beauty in many forms of expression. He loves music. He is motivated by colour and light as well as sound, and empathizes with musician Ravi Shankar who once said that he feels such “beautiful pain” that comes from within as he plays that he is moved to tears of happiness. “I get that with both art forms,” Hunter concurs. Whether he is painting exciting textural surfaces filled with light and colour or lyrically playing one of his own compositions on the guitar, artist Hunter is happy to find beauty and express it through all of his many talents."
