Artist Max Slevogt

"Born in 1868, Max Slevogt was one of the leading German Impressionists and he is particularly well-known for his painting of landscapes. He studied art in Munich, Germany, before travelling to Paris in 1889, and then to Italy. He later travelled widely to countries such as Denmark, Holland and Egypt, where he painted many colourful landscapes. Around 1900, he developed his Impressionist style of painting and became well-known as both an illustrator and an artist. He worked for many periodicals and also illustrated many books. His most famous paintings are a series of images of the singer D'Andrade as Don Giovanni. However, his last piece of work, a fresco of Golgotha in the Friedenskirche at Ludwigshafen, Germany (1932), is considered to be his masterpiece. He painted other frescoes and there are many pictures by him in leading museums throughout Germany. He died in 1932."
